How To Score In Golf
How to score in golf is fairly easy. When you score in golf it is recorded on a score card. For each stroke taken that counts as a point. Unlike other games it is the individual with the lowest score that wins the game. There are match games where groups will play against other groups where the group who wins a hole is one up and the group with the most amount of hole won is the winner. Knowing how to score in golf will require an understanding of the scorecard.
Marking The Scorecard
This is a very easy thing to understand with exception to the handicap which will be discussed later. The black row on the card denotes the hole on the course. The blue row represents the yardage of a championship game. The white row represents the yardage men use when playing the game. The yardage is the distance from the tee off to the hole of a particular hole. The gold row represents the seniors yardage and the red row represents the yardage for women. There is a light green row that represents the par for its respective hole. Then the last row is the handicap section which will be discussed later. In order to keep score all players put there names in the slots to the left of the card. For every stroke taken on a particular hole equals one point and the total amount of strokes it takes to get the ball into the whole is then recorded in the respective column for that hole played. Once the game is done the scores for each hole are tallied and the individual with the lowest score wins.
Scoring With A Handicap
Understanding the handicap is slightly difficult but really is simple. Handicaps are numbers assigned to players belonging to a club that use a calculation system set for usually by the USGA Handicapping System. There are many variables used in calculating a handicap number, which will be discussed in another article What the handicap enables is an even playing field for all level of skills each player has. So the more skilled player will have a lower handicap number. The handicap number determines how many strokes a player may take. This is then subtracted from the players total score at the end. On the score card there is the handicap row with a number for each hole. This is the rank number which the higher the number would be the hole that a player would most likely need an extra stroke. Before the game begins each player must look at the card and choose the holes with the highest rank. So if the handicap is 6 the only the holes with the 6 highest numbers are the holes in which the handicap can be taken.
Learning how to score in golf really is not that difficult and should easily be picked up once playing the game.
